Lead Engineer (Pipeline) - UAE

Overall purpose of role
Lead a team of engineers and designers in executing basic and detailed engineering work for medium to large sized projects, taking full responsibility for design, technical information for costing and procurement, and ensuring compliance with tender specifications, quality requirements, and budgeted man-hours and schedules. Provide technical guidance, training, and mentoring to team members as needed. Play a lead role in projects as assigned by the discipline manager and assist in managing discipline activities and development.activities and development.
Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities
- Confer with Project Engineering Manager/Discipline Manager on project developments. Coordinate and integrate relevant activities with other engineering departments.
- Evaluate manpower requirements for assigned proposals/projects, develop manpower forecasts, plans and schedules. Propose manpower requirements for the execution of engineering activities within the budgeted project man-hours. Recommend cost effective measures to reduce overall manpower costs.
- Carry out contract review, provide guidelines on list of engineering deliverables and technical requirements for development of the Technical Document Register (TDR).
- Review designs for compliance based on sound engineering practices, company standards, client contract requirements and based on international codes and standards.
- Responsible for the complete submarine pipeline and subsea cables system design and interface (construction/procurement/third party verification) for the all the phases of the project
- Supervise the engineering design for Subsea pipeline system during bid stage or detailed design including, route selection optimization, mechanical design (wall thickness, expansion, global buckling, spanning, bottom roughness), stability – static & dynamic, cathodic protection bracelet anode and retrofit anode sled design, materials & corrosion assessment etc.
- Supervise the engineering design for submarine cables during bid stage or detailed design including, route selection and optimization, crossing design, on-bottom stability analysis, allowable free span etc.
- Supervise the team of engineers in Preparing the design basis/CTRs, technical specifications and data sheets for material purchasing, alignment sheets, design manual, mechanical & integrity calculations, design analyses & calculation required to design the pipelines and subsea cables system, including the engineering activities of third parties/sub-contractors for the pipeline/subsea cable design.
- Define standards and procedures for the relative engineering area and contribute to software evaluations.
- Supervise the discipline responsibility for production of deliverables, which may include engineering support, design calculations, procedures, analyses, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports and various third party submissions.
- Coordinates pipeline engineering support to the execution of multidiscipline projects in line with defined budget and schedule
- Responsible for change management & risk identification.
- Interface and meet client and vendor representatives as required.
- Coordinate with project engineering manager and planning departments on schedule related issues.
- Manage the 3rd party subcontractors when engineering studies are outsourced or subcontracted to a 3rd party.
- Promote safety awareness in strict compliance with company HSE policies and procedures.
- Interact with Quality department for quality issues, strictly ensure compliance with company’s quality procedures.
- Assist in identifying, preparation and implementation of work procedures, standard design guides, specifications, datasheets and checklists.
- Recommend library books, codes and standards and software requirements.
- Identify the training needs of team members. Mentor and motivate the assigned team member.
- Assist discipline manager in resource planning, forecast, recruitment, work assignment, work scheduling and monitoring.
- Assist the discipline manager in the development of departmental capabilities and standardization of calculation template, guidelines, etc.
Attainment
- Minimum Education
> Bachelor Degree in Mechanical/Civil/Chemical Engineering - Minimum Experience:
> Minimum of 12 years of related Oil and Gas industry experience preferable from a background in working
for consultancy organizations in the EPC of the Oil and Gas Industry.
> A minimum of 8 years of experience within the off shore oil & gas industry working for Offshore Engineering consultants / EPCI Contractors. Must have worked as lead engineer in at least one upstream Oil and Gas project - Code and Standards
> Conversant with the relevant International codes & standards such as API, DNV etc.
> Familiar with Oil and Gas Company’s standard such as SHELL DEPs, BP Guidelines, Saudi Aramco’s Standards, ADMA Standards etc. - Software Knowledge
> PIPESIM, CAESAR, DNV Software - Design calculation and studies-Subsea Pipeline
> On-bottom stability assessment, Wall thickness calculation, Pipeline Thermal Expansion, Crossing analysis - Design calculation and studies-Subsea Cable
> Route selection and optimization, Crossing design, on- bottom stability analysis, allowable free span - Procurement Engineering Management
> Complete procurement engineering cycle of Pipeline & Associated accessories /bulks AND Subsea cable & Associated accessories /bulks - Third party studies
> Managing the Third party RFQ, TC/TBE for third party engineering subcontractor for Pipeline and Subsea cable. Also managing the post award engineering work for pipeline and subsea cables.
